When you are making a housing decision with your son or daughter, we recommend that you carefully examine the fire safety systems available in each housing option. Edgewood Commons is a fully sprinklered building, which provides Edgewood Commons parents with extra peace of mind. Edgewood Commons also has other important safety features:
- Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in each apartment.
- Access to Edgewood Commons and each apartment is by FSU ID card only.
- Access to each bedroom is controlled by a deadbolt lock.
- Edgewood Commons’ exterior doors and interior hallways are covered by a video camera system.
- Edgewood Commons’ parking lot is covered by a video camera system.
- University police patrol Edgewood Commons regularly.
- Edgewood Commons staff perform monthly health and safety checks of each apartment.
Edgewood Commons offers a great balance of privacy and social interaction. All bedrooms are single occupancy rooms within larger apartments, as well as semi-private bathrooms which are shared with only one other person. This allows Edgewood Commons residents to enjoy a private living space as well as the opportunity to create lasting friendships with their apartment mates.
A full sized kitchen provides great flexibility in meal options to Edgewood Commons residents, allowing them to choose between a full meal plan, an affordable traveler’s meal plan, or buying their own groceries. This makes Edgewood Commons just as affordable as a single room in the traditional residence halls.
Edgewood Commons is also extremely convenient for parents. Our available summer storage options mean that your son or daughter does not need to move all their belongings out each spring and back in each fall. You can simply help them move in Freshman year and out after graduation!
Finally, Edgewood Commons apartments have great amenities, such as dishwashers, Showtime, air conditioning, wired and wireless internet access, and washer/dryers in each apartment, making it a great place for Frostburg State University students to call home.
